Help homeless pets and spend time together as a family
Families that would like to assist homeless or lost animals can search our volunteer database, put in
their zip code, and find local shelters or rescues in need of assistance. You can then contact shelters or rescues in your area and offer your time or resources to assist them. How easy is that?
How can you help at a shelter? Shelters and rescues will have their own ideas but here are some we thought of to get the ball rolling for you:
- Walk dogs
- Help to feed the animals
- Socialize dogs by spending time with them in the play area
- Socialize cats
- Collate paperwork for adoption applications
- Other administrative office work
- Man phones at fundraisers
- Clean the offices, play yard, kennels, cat houses, etc
- Make bandanas in varying sizes
- Work an event during a weekend – dispense literature, help to get the pets groomed to look their best for their potential new family
- Foster pets. Even a day at a time is a huge break for a pet from shelter life
- Take your children to a class at the shelter on how to care for animals.
- Help with the web site – write content, write up a description of the pet to make him or her sound irresistible, post pets to sites like PETS 911.
- Drop off towels, pet food, pet toys, and other items listed as needed by the shelter. Then, stick around to help them stock it and see what else you can do.
- Donate your professional experience and involve your family. You may be a graphic design expert who can led your skills to developing flyers or logos. Take your family with you when you meet with the staff. Also, ask to include the finished product in your portfolio.
- And lots more….
Did you know?
There is an actual national day set aside to encourage families to volunteer together? “National Family Volunteer Day” falls in November. In 2007, the date is November 17th.
Thank you in advance for volunteering to help our nation’s homeless and lost pets.
